19th International Conference on Wear of Materials

Wear of Materials 2013

19th International Conference on Wear of Materials
Portland, Oregon, USA | 14-18 April 2013

First Announcement and Call for Papers - deadline June 1, 2012

The 19th International Conference on Wear of Materials will focus on both the fundamental and applied aspects of wear and friction of materials at the macro-, micro-, and nano-scale. It will address the understanding of tribological phenomena; particularly the progress in recent decades and a special session will concentrate on modeling of wear.

Organised every two years, the Wear of Materials Conference provides a unique international forum for researchers and practicing engineers from different disciplines to interact and exchange their latest results.

Two types of papers are invited. Both categories of papers will be peer-reviewed for technical quality

  • full-length research-quality papers that involve materials aspects of wear, wear analysis and wear modeling, and
  • shorter, concise case studies

Call for Papers

Authors are invited to submit a standard format abstract for either of the paper types indicated below. Manuscripts will be peer-reviewed and, upon acceptance, the papers will be presented orally and published in the special issue of Wear journal.

If preferred, authors also have the opportunity to present their paper at WOM 2013 in the form of a poster in lieu of an oral presentation.

Information on past WOM conferences is available on the WOM Inc. website: www.wearofmaterials.org

Research Papers

(Final manuscript, if accepted, 10-20 double spaced pages including figures):

Original research papers reporting new research results in the following broad categories are invited:

  • Basic mechanisms of friction and wear of all materials and coatings, both dry and lubricated
  • Papers on modeling and testing of friction and wear behavior
  • Materials surface engineering methods to control friction and wear

Papers should include sufficient characterization of materials and test methods so that other researchers can duplicate the experiments. Submissions will be held to high standards as contributions to the understanding of wear and for clarity of writing.

Stand-Alone Posters

Submissions are also invited for stand-alone posters (without full-length manuscripts) on the key conference topics. Abstracts for poster presentations should be submitted via the WOM 2013 website. Accepted abstracts will appear in the delegate manual.

Awards

The Ludema Award will be given for the best paper and Peter J. Blau Award will be given for the best poster.

Case Studies and Test Methods

(Final manuscript, if accepted, 5-10 double spaced pages, including figures):

These contributions should be specific to an application or service; failure analysis, or solutions to a wide variety of specific wear related problems.

Papers in this category should describe the service or application in sufficient detail to define the issues and solutions. Papers must include reasonable characterization of materials, test method, topography and other conditions in sufficient detail so that another researcher or engineer can determine their applicability.

Language and Units
The conference language is English; SI units must be used, and papers must be original contributions, not containing material previously published or accepted for publication elsewhere.
